I couldn’t resist a comment on a foodie theme that has emerged in the popular press over the last few weeks.
The NHS Choices website has published an article referring to pieces in the Daily Mail and the Daily Telegraph both extolling the benefits of salt as a treatment for Depression. The Mail’s article goes into a bit more detail than the Telegraph’s but it’s probably the NHS site that explains the theory the best.
What the NHS missed though was an article in the MIrror. They published an article in February listing 1o Top Tips for dealing with Paranoid Psychosis. Number 4? Eat more Lettuce! Apparently it contains a Morphine like substance that aids sleep.

We’ve heard a few comments recently suggesting it’s not as easy to find Psychological Therapies as it should be. When we looked a bit closer, it was easy to see why!
There is a nice big map just inside the Aberlady Road enterance to the Herdmanflat Site. It points the way to the Adult Community Mental Health Team (CMHT) but doesn’t list Psychological Therapies seperately. Since we have a different front door, this could confuse people a little.
In an attempt to clarify things, we’ve added a How to Find Us page.
The page has an interactive map that shows both traditional map and aerial photo. Psychological Therapies is highlighted by a yellow marker.
Since a Flash plugin is needed to show the interactive map, we’ve also included a ‘traditional’ graphic. Follow the yellow line from Aberlady Road to find us. A (small) point of interest, we made the second graphic from a photo of the original sign by the enterance.
Hope this helps. If not - Let us know!

Our new Links Directory went live this morning. At the moment it’s a little thin on the ground but this will change in the very near future.
The idea behind the Directory is to provide a central place that provides Links to as many useful websites as possible. The most important part of this is that anyone and everyone can suggest a link for inclusion and we would encourage you to do so!
Once a link is suggested it is held for moderation. The only reason for doing this is to make sure the project doesn’t get over run with spam. As long as we agree that a site has some value to our members and readers, it will be added as soon as possible. This does mean that there will be a slight delay between your submission and the link appearing on the site but we will keep this delay as short as possible.
If you are a site owner, we have provided some code for adding a link to our site in return. We are not insisting on reciprocal links but we would like the publicity if you’re prepared to give it! If your site is already listed and you want to edit the listing in any way, please Contact Us. We will be happy to change things for you.
So, get your thinking caps on. If you have a favourite site or have found a particularly good source of useful information, let us know about it!

Over the weekend we have added a new series of Self Help and Information booklets. These have been published by L-PIN, the Lothian Psychological Interventions Network.
The booklets were originally produced by Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Trust a few years ago. They have been brought up to date and local contacts and resources have been added.
Although primarily written with a Lothian bias, the booklets will be useful to anyone with an interest.
Find them on our site by clicking this link or navigating to our Self Help Leaflets section under the Resources heading.
